TRANSFER
I wanted to transfer my existing website to the Raspberry but i also wanted to setup home automation control through this server. I was unable to install domoticz on an existing linux distro.
So I did it the other way around. I started by installing a domoticz image.
Now I had a linux without GUI so I had to use a terminal to edit the relative files for a fixed IP and on wpa_supplicant.conf my wifi reported. Then I put the file system on a fast USB stick to get better performance.
INSTALLATION
Now I could proceed with installing the necessary server software such as Samba, Apache, PHP and MySQL.
Now that I had samba I could easily access all files from my RK3188 box via my windows pc network and
copy them to my new box. Only transferring Mysql databases is a bit more complex but
with MyPHPadmin this goes smoothly. The result is now that I have a server running on a PI2 connected to the network via WiFi. So I can put it anywhere in the house. I have a camera attached
so that it also functions as a webcam. Furthermore, an rfxTRX transceiver is attached that
controls home automation. I have also mounted an RF433 transmitter with which I can operate home automation.
REVISIONS
Since the android phones are easy to setup as a webcam, i placed the raspberry upon a cupboard, out of sight and more central relative to i.o.t. devices. The camera was useless here so i removed it.
Now that we have the rf-link gateway working together with Domoticz also the radio transmitter was redundant.
The domoticz system can control all of my i.o.t devices. This means a.o. that almost all of my lights can be controlled and switched automatically. Another modernisation was moving the comlete filesystem to an ssd disk. This made the server run faster and i had disk space enough to install a cloud service to transfer large files.
LATEST
After experiments with voice commands (IFTT), the 'Google Home' device was a new step towards modernization the system. In order to be able to control all of the i.o.t via voice commands, i installed Homebridge. No extra hardware is needed to accomplish this, as het Google Home works perfectly together with HomeBridge that in its turn works together with Domoticz.
Recently i updated the complete website for an improved way of navigation and to capitalize on the more extensive possibilities of HTML5. Much has improved here, especially in the field of media. A lot of photo's and videos are served now.
